My name is June Henry. I live in Australia. I joined the Next Level program, I've been in it for 12 months.
I had a pretty extensive musical background. I learned classical music in my adolescent years. And I've been to Uni, I got a Diploma of Music.
But there was that kind of, little gap in between. And I still wasn't quite where I wanted to be. I couldn't play how I wanted to play.
What sets the Next Level program apart is the holistic approach, the musicality approach. Because that's what you need. You just don't need to be taught a lesson. You need the holistic approach to the lesson.
It's all combined. It's all the one. It's all music, isn't it? That's what you need to be able to appreciate music properly, to be able to then perform it.
That's always been the frustration, because I know, I know it all. But to get it how to sound how I want it to sound. You can play music, but if you play it straight from the dots on the page, it doesn't it sound like it's supposed to sound.
And you've got to know how to express that in your music. With your heart you’ve got your expression, you've got your feeling, That needs to be in the music.
The Musical U website is amazing. And going through the different steps in there is amazing. Everything's there in front of you.
And with the coach, it just adds that extra dimension of “Yes, you're doing it right. You're going through the program right.” He was always gracious, always there to support me no matter what.
Since doing the Next Level program, my ear is a lot better. I'm always listening to music and I'm thinking “Okay, is that a fifth? Is that an octave?” Just to try and work out what that gap is. I could hear it, but not quite hear it. I'm able to hear that a lot better.
I can hear little riffs now. And I can know what they're doing. I can see in my mind. I can see where it's going. “I know what it's doing. I can do that.”
I think it's so cool that I'm able to hear the different sounds. And how I can hear it, and replay it back. I think that's the biggest thing for me.
The Next Level program was great. There are a lot of people that want to take up a musical instrument. It'll help them move along a lot quicker.
A lot of people these days are just trying to do different things online. And they're not going to teach them the holistic approach. It's just very sad, I think. Because so many people just drop out. But everyone can learn.
That's the thing. People say “I can't sing. I've been told I can't sing.” Well, you can. And it's fun. It's going to make your journey a lot more fun.
