Have you ever felt like you aren’t a “natural”...

And that you’re not “cut out” to be a musician?
Do you want to play what you hear, when you hear it…

Effortlessly, freely, and naturally…

Just like the musicians you admire the most?

Did you start playing music because you have a deep-seated passion and LOVE for music?

But now...

You're frustrated by tedious drills...

Aggravated by your lack of progress...

And almost ready to “throw in the towel”?

These emotions are a totally normal and understandable reaction to learning something new.
Every musician struggles at some point to develop their musicianship, so I promise it’s nothing to worry about.

Besides, it’s not even your fault you’re struggling to tap into your natural-born musicality.

That’s because most music learners are trying to learn music really inefficiently.

Most music education focuses on just ONE out of the FOUR critical areas all master musicians have internalized.

Imagine if your car was missing three out of four tires.

You’d have a pretty hard time getting anywhere, right?

Well, the same thing goes for music.

It’s tough to make progress when you ignore 75% of the “special sauce” that makes great musicians so special.

If it seems like something is “missing” in your playing, versus that of your idols and inspirations...

It’s because there is something missing.

(A lot’s missing, actually. But don’t worry, we’ll show you where to find everything.)
Instruments
“Traditional” music education often focuses only on instrument technique, written notation and theory.

Scales, sight-reading, and complicated exercises galore.

Studying music like that guts the emotion out of the process.

Instead of naturally connecting with your instrument...

Telling a beautiful, emotional story with your music...

Many music students are stuck trying to "play the right notes."

That’s not any fun.

And it completely misses the reason why most of us started playing music in the first place.
If you’re anything like me, music “spoke” to you from an early age.

You felt a natural connection with it.

You didn’t have to “practise” falling in love with music.
Music
This love affair happened on its own because human beings are hard-wired for music.

It’s as natural a connection as we have to breathing or eating.

But it's clear the musical education you've gotten so far is lacking something.

It's left you feeling frustrated instead of free.

That's why you're on this page right now.

You know you need to try something different to get different results.

Because what got you where you are now won’t take you where you want to go.

Or in other words…

If you keep taking the same actions (and practising the same things)...

You’ll keep getting (or not getting) the same results.

Now in regards to music, we already discussed a big problem that most music learners face.

Many students only focus on instrument technique, music by rote, and some theory.

Right now, I want to introduce you to a holistic approach to developing musicality skills.

Not only is it WAY more fun to learn music like this.

Thousands of our Musical U students have proven how well this process works.

And they're enjoying incredible results WAY faster than they ever expected was possible.
Oftentimes in a few weeks or less...

We see them have a big breakthrough...

And finally, feel the musical joy they've been waiting for their whole lives.

More than once a student's told us it's like this training switched their musical world from black and white...

To full of vivid and vibrant colors.

What makes the difference?

We focus on becoming a “total” musician.

We structure the training in a way that effortlessly "stacks" your new musical skills...

One upon the other...

Automatically helping you make lightning-fast progress so fast it'll shock you.

And everyone who hears you play.

"For me, one of the best place to study, learn, improve and have nice talks about any subject.

Musical U is where I can without fear come in and feel like a family."

Introducing The
"4H Model Of Musicality"

You can think of your musicality – and musical abilities in general – as having four key components:

4H Model
Your Head: how you understand music consciously, intellectually.

Your Hands: how you physically interact with an instrument to produce musical sounds.

Your Hearing: how you perceive music and understand it by ear.

Your Heart: how you connect with yourself and others through music.
When you combine and nurture all four of these elements…

It leads to exponential musical progress.

Instead of just practicing boring technique or difficult drills…

When you learn this way, you get in touch with the “spiritual” side of playing music.

And you tap into the emotional creativity that inspired you to play music to begin with.

Imagine Being Able To...

Imagine music vividly in your mind’s ear - and then bring that out through your instrument.

Glance at sheet music and automatically imagine how it would sound.

Keep a rock-steady beat and create grooves that get people moving.

Feel an inner instinct for music, sensing the notes, chords and rhythms that will come next.

Hear music and instantly know what the equivalent notation on the page would be.

Step up on any stage with confidence, ready to perform at your best.

Sit down with your instrument and just play!

Whether it's alone in your living room or in front of a roaring crowd at Carnegie Hall.

No matter what you’re hoping to do with your music…
All this and more is possible for you.
And although master musicians can seem like magicians...

There’s no mystery to it.

With the right training, it's easy to learn everything it takes.

And even faster than you can probably imagine right now.

“Since joining it has dramatically changed the way I train my ears and sped up the amount of progress I've been making.”

– Emily G.

“I learnt more yesterday with the first module than I have in the last year.”

Musical U

At Musical U, our mission is to help ALL music-learners tap into their natural-born musicality.

Musical U

We specialise in helping passionate music-learners become "total" musicians…

By learning all the skills they’ve been missing out on that make up the “4H Model of Musicality”.
And based on the scientific research regarding how the brain is wired to learn…

Plus a decade of our own experience with music learners of all ages, instruments, ability levels, and styles of music...

It’s clear to us – and thousands of our Musical U students...

That musicality transformation is possible for ANYONE.

Since 2009, we’ve helped more than 11,000,000 music learners.

We've helped every different instrument, style, and genre of musician you can imagine.

And our students run the gamut from brand newbie to seasoned pro.

Here are some of the skills we regularly help our students develop:
  • Playing notes and chords by ear
  • Improvising freely and easily
  • Getting a strong, accurate sense of rhythm
  • Singing confidently in tune
  • And so much more
We designed our training to work for you regardless of the instrument or style you play…

And achieving success with our programs requires no prior knowledge or musical abilities.

When you join our community at Musical U, here’s just some of what you’ll discover:

  • Two powerful approaches to identifying notes by ear: intervals and solfa.

These two methods help you play any music you hear, remember, or imagine – entirely by ear.
  • How to create a powerful groove and “lock in” with any group you play with.

We’ll tighten up your sense of rhythm.

And you'll develop an understanding of how rhythms you hear correspond to notation.
  • The keys to improvising with true freedom.

Our simple, counterintuitive approach will have you soloing (and sounding good!) after only a couple of practice sessions.
  • How to use “playgrounds” to develop your instinct for improvisation.

This step-by-step process builds up your improv skills from scratch...
  • Even if you’ve only ever read sheet music before.
  • When you learn improvisation like this, it’s not scary. It’s FUN.
  • And if you’re like most of our students, you’ll never want to stop jamming once you’ve made this mental musical shift.
  • You’ll harness the power of your natural “first instrument” – your voice.
  • You'll quickly be singing with confidence and in tune...
  • Even if your current singing voice sounds like you stepped on a cat’s tail.
  • There are only two core skills you need to sing accurately, confidently, and reliably in tune.
  • And we’ll show you a unique visual training system that listens to your singing and shows you how to improve.
But our Musical U students experience benefits that are so much deeper and more meaningful...

And they go far beyond what the training technically "covers".

That’s because we’re not training you to be a “music repeater.”

We focus solely on transforming you into a “total” musician...

So you can apply what you’re learning in every musical situation…

No matter what “curve balls” get thrown at you during a performance.
Joy
Joy
Some of our students’ “unexpected wins” include:
  • Easier sight-reading.

You'll understand all the patterns in the music.

And what notes, chords, and rhythms tend to go together.

  • This makes it way easier to sit down and play a tune.
  • Creative abilities unlocked.

Songwriting and composition come easily when you have the instinct for music inside you.
  • Faster instrument learning.

Now that all the notes you play have a life and a meaning to them...
  • And aren’t just black dots on a page...
  • It’s way more fun and interesting to figure out how to express yourself on your instrument.
  • More expressive playing.

Your ears get naturally upgraded to a new level of detail in hearing and analysing.
  • This automatically feeds back to improve your playing.
  • Easy collaboration.
  • Your inner musical understanding boosts your confidence.
  • All your new skills are versatile and transferable to any musical situation.
  • A sense of momentum.

Our training is step-by-step and flexible.
  • Plus personal guidance is available at all times, so there’s always a way to keep moving forward.
  • More joy and ease.

This isn’t something you’d expect music education resources to deliver.
  • But our students often report they’re enjoying their musical life more.
  • And LOVING to play music is the most important “win” of all.
"This is really incredible. It’s the one of the best things I’m learning in my last year.

After many years playing exclusively written music by myself and getting bored and dropping out, I have been reborn to music.

It is an infinite playground and I am enjoying every second of this exciting journey."

Discover The “4 Seasons”
of Living Music

Discover The “4 Seasons”
of Living Music

The Living Music curriculum is broken down into Four 12-Week “Seasons.”

Each “Season” is designed to deliver a specific result and be accessible to any musician.

Regardless of your ability level, instrument, style, or prior experience with musicality training.

I know 12 weeks might sound like a long time.

And you might be wondering:

"Will I be able to follow through on all that?"

But over the last decade-plus of successfully helping tens of thousands of adult music-learners…

We've found that 12 weeks is the perfect "sweet spot".

It’s enough time to develop some really significant new skills and abilities.

And thanks to some special methods we provide to assist you...

You’ll find it’s quite easy to stay motivated...

Even if you've struggled with consistency and follow-through in the past.

So even if 12 weeks seems like a long time right now…

Trust me for a second.

We’re experts in helping you develop the mindset...

The motivation...

And the mechanisms to make your musical dreams a reality.

In 12 weeks you'll be amazed at the transformation that's possible.
Living Music has opened up my mind to the potential of "I could actually do it" and not just copy/cover someone elses's interpretation of music to the words. That is pretty amazing in only 12 weeks. Thank you!
– Mike C., Living Music
This is amazing. I have learned more, and retained more, since the beginning of Living Music 12 weeks ago than I have in my entire Life!
– Joss F., Living Music
Also, we’ve designed Living Music so that you can get incredible results in between 15 and 30 minutes per day...

Depending on how deep you want to go.

You do not need to practice for hours to get results and have massive breakthroughs.

It’s also very important to note…

Perfection is not expected or required of you.

You don't have to follow this program to a "T" to be successful.

Even if you only work through some of the material...

Even if your follow-through is patchy...

You can (and will) experience incredible shifts in your relationship with music.

Many students have breakthroughs in the first week or two.

In just a few hours of practice...

They escape decades of false limitations...

And blast through negative limiting beliefs about what they're capable of.

We've seen that kind of deep identity shift happen in just a matter of days.

And while we can't promise that will happen for you...

The main thing to know is...

Massive musical growth can happen any time along the way.

All you have to do is show up and move forward in whatever way you can.

Now, without further ado…

Let’s dive into the Living Music Seasons!

When You Join Today

You Will Get The Full 12-Week SPRING Season (Value: $499)

Living Music
Spring

Spring is all about new beginnings.

In this Season, you'll learn new mental models for understanding pitch and rhythm instinctively.

Once you're introduced to this "Rosetta Stone" - which is completely different from how music is normally taught - you'll almost immediately form a new relationship with the music you hear and play.

Through simple songs and day-by-day exercises you'll internalise the new mental models and cultivate the natural instinct for music that's been waiting inside you all along.

You'll find yourself starting to recognise notes and rhythms automatically, and be able to play music by ear.

Your ability to improvise will wake up and you'll begin expressing your own musical ideas on-the-fly as easy as speaking your native language.

And finally the world of "theory" and "music notation" will all just seem like a simple, easy, natural part of all the music you hear and play.

Maybe the coolest thing about the Spring Season is how fast you'll see results.

That's what choosing the right mental models does for you.

When you adopt a mental model that matches up with your brain’s natural approach to learning…

And you leverage what your brain already knows and understands about the music you've been hearing all your life…

You can make rapid progress.

In Spring Season we'll equip you with the powerful new mental models for pitch and rhythm which almost instantly let you relate to music in a new natural and instinctive way.

Living Music
Summer
During “Summer” we go deep on setting your musical creativity free.

(This corresponds with Your HEART in the "4H" Model of Musicality.)

Day by day, and week by week...

We cover the full Expansive Creativity™ framework and more, including:

✔ The Improviser's Mindset (how to think like a natural creator)

✔ Constraints and Dimensions

This approach to creativity is counterintuitive.

You give yourself LESS options and this “forces” creativity to happen.

✔ Playgrounds

These are fun, safe places where you can start to develop your confidence as an improviser...

Even if you’ve only ever read sheet music before.

✔ The Improv Cycle

This helps you become your own best teacher.

You'll be able to continually refine your creative instinct during every practice session.

✔ Improvise To Learn

This “judo flip” lets you develop your creativity while actually practicing less.

... and a whole lot more.
Despite whatever struggles you might have experienced in the past with being creative...

You're not in any way "broken" or limited.

There's nothing wrong with you, musically...

Even though sometimes it might feel like there is.

The reality is, no one's shown you the right way to be "creative" yet.

And you don't know to leverage all the musical potential waiting inside you. (Yet!)

Together, over the course of 12 weeks we’ll rewire your brain for musical success, absolute confidence, and massive progress.

You Will Also Get The Full 12-Week AUTUMN Season (Value: $499)

Living Music
Autumn
In Autumn we'll lead you step-by-step through learning to play music easily and confidently by ear.

We’ll discuss how you can hear music and then immediately play it back on your instrument.

Or even write it down in notation.

Your musical ear becomes a superpower that enables you to be a totally free musician.

And you'll be confident in your abilities to “play what you hear”.

No more dependence on sheet music, chord charts, tab, or notation.

No more carefully, painstakingly memorising music note by note.

Just hear - and play.

You see, not all "ear training" is created equal.

We've developed a unique approach at Musical U based on a decade-plus of experience.

(The first incarnation of Musical U was actually called Easy Ear Training, so ear training is a topic that’s particularly near and dear to our heart.)

It's designed to combat the number one problem with traditional ear training: that it's done in a dry, abstract way, divorced from the music you actually hear, love and play.

Instead of that, we train your ears to understand the musical language.

You’ll feel as natural and confident when you’re playing or listening to music as when you’re speaking your native language.

Learn, Practice and Apply, With Integrated Ear Training™

With the Integrated Ear Training approach...

Every step of the way you Learn the concepts...

You Practice the core skills...

And you Apply it immediately on your instrument (with real music).

Over the last few years, we've dialed this framework in…

So that literally in a single session you can learn, practise, and apply a musical concept…

And walk away with new and improved practical abilities.

If you've ever felt you "didn't have an ear for music"...

Or maybe you're even like some of those who come to us worried that they might be "tone deaf"...

You are going to find that Integrated Ear Training is a real game-changer.

In Autumn we use this unique method to get you quickly and easily real music entirely by ear.

You Will Also Get The Full 12-Week WINTER Season (Value: $499)

Living Music
Winter

In Winter we go deep on Music Theory, through a unique and POWERFUL approach.

Have you heard of the "Circle Of Fifths"?

If you Google that phrase, you'll probably end up on our website.

We have a kind of nerdy obsession with it!

That might seem odd if your only experience of the “circle” is like most musicians…

As this weird, complicated, even arcane symbol that tells you about sharps and flats in key signatures.

But a few years ago we went super deep on the Circle and developed a whole new approach to mastering it.

Why does that matter?

And why would we possibly base an entire 12-week Season around it?

Because it turns out the Circle is incredibly deep and fundamental part of music itself.
Circle of Fifths

Simply put:

It is the way pitch works.

Meaning, once you understand how the “Circle” works…

You can literally explain EVERYTHING pitch-related in music.

All the scales, chords, keys, notes, melodies...

They can all be explained using the Circle.

And with our unique approach, you literally PLAY your way to mastering the Circle in a musical way.

It's seriously cool.

Again and again we've seen that once a student internalises this structure...

They start seeing everything in terms of the Circle.

And their relationship to music theory is never the same again.

What was once "prescriptive" and full of restrictions...

Becomes purely "descriptive" and endlessly empowering.

So if you've encountered the Circle and been confused or intimidated...

Or if anything in music theory related to pitch has frustrated you in the past...

Or if you just love the idea of music theory being something easy, natural, and inherently musical for you...

Then you're going to love the Winter Season of Living Music.

That's 12 weeks of daily, bite-sized lessons which lead you step-by-step through mastering the Circle Of Fifths and adopting "the new music theory" through our unique musicality-based approach.

Hear From Winter Graduates...

This has helped me get unstuck in my musical journey. While I have studied theory in the past, Musical U has allowed me to really understand theory with my ears and apply it to my instrument.

Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Bruce W.

Bruce has always wanted to play the piano as a child, but was never allowed to until he purchased his own keyboard following high school. For years, he played on and off, focusing more on his career and traveling for his job. After retiring, he dedicated himself to finally putting the time needed into his instrument to play jazz music.

He started taking lessons and playing with other musicians in his community, but could feel that there were some missing pieces to his musicality. After reading an article about the importance of developing musicality, he joined Musical U and began his training. Impressed by the amount of progress he made in a short amount of time, he eagerly signed up for Living Music.

Bruce is rapidly expanding his repertoire and experiencing music in an entirely new way. The skills that he’s gained in Living Music have allowed him to play better, transpose in real time, and create his own arrangements. He looks forward to combining his instrument study with Living Music and continuing to move forward with his development as a jazz piano player.

Case Study: Thulane A.

Thulane has been a professional saxophonist for the last 20 years. He’s performed in a wide variety of different ensembles and taught students all around the world. During his career he’s studied with many teachers and taken courses to help him get to the next level in his playing.

He first came to Musical U because of a gap that he saw in his own playing and teaching. While he had studied for years, he says he never felt like a true natural when playing in jam sessions. He saw his colleagues take gigs and perform in high pressure situations at a whim. Having that feel for music was something that had been unattainable for him.

Since joining Living Music, Thulane says he feels a new appreciation and understanding of music that had eluded him all his life. He feels a new level of satisfaction with his musical expression and feels the support of all those in the community. After a lifetime of searching, he says Living Music is the one program that has given him this opportunity.

Case Study: Leslie M.

Leslie grew up in a very musical family, but was never able to confidently express herself on any instrument that she tried. She raised her children with music lessons and dabbled around on various instruments, but was never able to devote much time to her art until later in life.

She joined the Living Music program and immediately resonated with the message and pace of the materials. It’s given her a framework and vocabulary where she can put the pieces together and express herself. She’s enjoyed interacting with the staff and her fellow students on the discussion boards and live calls.

After only 8 weeks in Living Music, Leslie has realized that her Big Picture Vision was thinking far too small as she’s already able to play by ear. She’s says she's been waiting for this knowledge her entire life and considers this year to be life changing for her. Leslie is eager to continue exploring and growing as a musician for the rest of her life.

All Four Seasons Are Based on Tried-And-True Material

In developing the Living Music program we've drawn on all the very best training material from over 10 years working with adult music learners online at Musical U.

That includes our full membership program and dedicated musicality courses.

All this material is proven to work...

And has delivered results thousands of times.

  Designed To Work For You

We've specialised in helping adult music learners online for over a decade.

So we know how busy life can be.

And we get the challenges that can arise when trying to follow through with online training.

That’s why we’ve baked flexibility and personalisation into Living Music.

It’s designed to make it easy to fit around your schedule - day to day, week to week, and month to month.

Everything’s available online 24/7 and usable from any internet device.

And it only takes 15-30 minutes of practice each day to make massive progress FAST.

But that's not all...

When we designed Living Music...

We could see some really cool additional opportunities to help enhance and extend those core transformations...

Here are three of those additions that have had a massive impact on our Living Music students so far.

First: When you join today you're also going to get a second parallel track running throughout the year.

That's right.

Everything covered above is essentially only half of the Living Music curriculum.

And that other track is really amazing.

It's called Active Listening.

When You Join Today

You Will Also Get...

1. Active Listening

Active Listening
Active Listening is the skill of dissecting music by ear in your mind.

It's what allows expert musician to hear and understand such depth and detail in any music they hear or play.

It's how these master musicians unlock every aspect of the music.

And it's why they understand how all the pieces fit together.

Active Listening is like the "dark horse" of musicality training.

Nobody expects it to be a big deal... until it blows their mind.

We knew it would be powerful to include this in the Living Music program.

But the enormous impact it had on our first group of students took even us by surprise.

Change How You Listen To Music Forever
With "4-D Listening"

Our approach to active listening goes way beyond what's typically taught as "music appreciation".

We have a framework called "4-D Listening".

It lets you take that same kind of idea of "dimensions" we talked about in the context of Expansive Creativity™...

And use it to continually ask yourself exploratory questions about what you're hearing.

When you learn this...

It's like every time you hear (or play) music you get to take your musical ears out on exciting new adventures.

Musicians LOVE This Because...

Love Active Listening
1. It unlocks whole new levels and layers of detail for you to enjoy, even in music you thought you already knew well.
2. This skill becomes ingrained and automatic.
As you practice active listening...

It becomes more and more part of your musical brain's autopilot.

We're always hearing stories from students of how things just start jumping out at them in music now.

And they're not even meaning to do active listening at the time.

(You might call this "Accidental Active Listening".)

And here's something REALLY cool.

We’ve been able to weave Active Listening throughout the entire Living Music curriculum.

We provide you with dedicated "Explorations" modules.

Here you’ll learn to combine the practical skills you're learning...

Like playing by ear or improvising...

With active listening.

That means you can connect everything you're learning to the real music you hear and play every day.

From Listening To CREATING

A lot of musicians who haven't been "formally" trained worry they "don't have good ears".

Lack of formal musical training can actually be an advantage in cases like this.

But many of our students start off unsure if they perceive music the way they should.
Creating
Christopher

"One of my coaching clients back when I did one-to-one coaching really had concerns about this.

He wanted to compose.

And he really had this visceral sense of the music he wanted to create and what music he particularly loved.

But he could not put any of it into words.

And he felt soooo frustrated that he knew there was potential inside him...

But he just didn't have the mental frameworks or the vocabulary...

Or even the raw perception...

To put anything concrete together.

Then, by studying active listening, he was able to fill in those missing pieces.

He started to understand form.

He started to understand instrumentation and timbre.

He was able to pinpoint what he liked and what inspired him, and talk intelligently about it.

And of course once he could do that, it totally transformed how he was able to approach his own composing."
If you're not currently able to listen to a piece of music, and then talk at length about what you heard...

The melody, the harmony, the form, the texture, the rhythms, the audio effects, the dynamics, the stylistic choices...
Talk Music
Then just know that ALL of that comes down to learnable skills.

It's not magic.

With a bit of practice you'll develop an incredible bigger-picture understanding of what's going on in the music around you.
“I’m learning to play the piano as an older adult. I found the Active Listener's Handbook gave me a very good overview of what to listen for in a piece.

I'm still only in the first guide, but even with that I notice a clear improvement in my listening skills.”
– John O.
John O.
“I have never been exposed to listening to music in such a layered manner with a lookout for instrumentation and voices in harmony with pitch, rhythm, melody contours, form and structure.

It is so interesting and the repertoire of music and genres, each in its own realm of superior artistry. Listening intently and in sync and submerging into the mix and flow of the music.

My listening has improved much from the various sessions and exercises.

I can hear myself talking and singing like never. Eureka!”
– Jerry S.
Jerry S.
So when you join now, not only are you going to get the full year of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

You're also going to get this full year-long Active Listening track.

It's broken up into flexible 12-week Seasons.

And it's designed to go hand-in-hand with the other material.

But remember, you don’t have to study it in any particular order if you don’t want to.

Our original course on this topic was priced at $199 with a Part II at $129.

And it's worth much more than that.

We can conservatively say that this new version is four times the value of the original course.

So it's a total value of at least $799.

You'll get all that included when you join now.

Let’s Get You Prepped For Success

The next big Living Music enhancement is our preparatory modules at the start of each Season.

With over a decade of experience under our belts...

At this point we know a lot about what holds adult learners back when it comes to musicality training.

And, more importantly...

We know how to help them past those sticking points.

Or even avoid them entirely in the first place.

So at the start of each Season we take a couple of weeks to set you up for success.

And we knock down potential barriers before they even have a chance to come up.

That comes in two parts:

When You Join Today

You Will Also Get...

Mindset

Active Listening
These special "Mindset" modules address the core beliefs and attitudes that can either hold you back from your full potential...

... or blast you full-speed forwards towards it.

We address things like:

What are the thought patterns or habits you might have that actually prevent you from learning effectively?

And what mental habits or attitudes could you install that would flip things the other way, letting you glide smoothly forwards?

Depending on your personality, you might LOVE this idea or have no interest at all.

But what we can tell you is that even the most skeptical students inevitably find this stuff hugely valuable.

That's because you absolutely DO have the ability to achieve your musical potential and find ultimate musical freedom.

But as long as you have certain mindsets or belief patterns holding you back...

You'll need to struggle a lot harder for results that could have come easily.

So we kick off the Season by setting you up for success with some easy, low-pressure high-impact mindset work.

And if you're anything like our students in the program so far...

There will probably be a few mind-blowing insights or game-changing techniques waiting in there for you...

Singing

Singing
The second set of introductory modules is focused on Singing.

That word alone might already have you tuning out...

Or even hearing the mental objection, "Never mind that, I can't sing!"

And that's exactly the point.

This is not about turning you into "a singer".

We have seen, beyond a shadow of a doubt...

That learning to use your singing voice as a tool in your musical training has more of a positive effect than almost any other training technique.

We've seen this time and time again:

A student will start one of our programs thinking they can't sing.

Many of them have thought this for decades, ever since they were children.

And it’s not uncommon for these students to not even want to learn to sing.

But every time, after breaking this limiting belief down…

The student comes out the other side overjoyed and invigorated.

They feel confident and comfortable with their voice.

It's such a cool thing to add to your musicality and it pays off in big ways through everything you do.

So we spend a couple of weeks just gently introducing (or reintroducing) you to your singing voice.

We do this in a different way each Season.

And again, the only goal is to empower you with a useful tool.

Now of course many of our students discover in the process that they actually love singing.

Singing is way more fun once they're able to sing reliably and confidently in tune.

But that's not obligatory, and nobody's going to ask you to sing in front of anyone.

This is just about making sure that you're set up for maximum training effectiveness throughout the Season ahead.

“I also loved the Singing lessons and the live calls with Clare. Singing is my “high stakes” adventure as it’s the thing I most want to do better and the thing that most challenges me.”

– Emily S., Living Music
Emily G.

If you were to pay a teacher or coach to help you with these topics...

Who had anything like the kind of depth of experience that our instructors bring...

You'd be talking about $100 (or more) per lesson.

And it would take at least a half dozen lessons to see any real progress.

But when you look at the acceleration that's possible throughout the rest of your musical training when you get these things right...

That $600 total would be an absolute bargain.

You're going to get all of this material, fresh and new and different every Season, all included FREE in your Living Music program when you join now.

What You'll Get
But that's not all...

There's one more wonderful enhancement waiting for you:

When You Join Today

You Will Also Get...

3. Expert Workshops

Expert Workshops
For many years now we've had the honour of connecting with, and even working with, some of the world's top music educators.

And when we started developing the Living Music program we said what if we went beyond our own expert team?

What if we also brought in the best of the best, to teach what they specialise in most...

So that our students get the ultimate dream-come-true experience.

That's why every Season we have a series of workshops with guest experts.
Expert Workshops
These are optional.

You don't need to factor them in if you don't want to.

As always, we want to make sure this program fits around you and the time you have available.

So you can pick and choose the workshops that are most exciting to you.

And you can join us live or watch the replay any time you want or need to.

If you want particular insights on your instrument...

Or a certain aspect of the course material...

Chances are we've sought out a guest expert who can help.

Each Season we bring in our RESIDENT PROS

Our world-class Pros for guitar, bass, singing and piano, each provide some instrument-specific training

And they walk you through how to apply these musicality concepts to that particular instrument.

And as ever, students who don't play those instruments learn just as much as those who do!

In SPRING...

We also brought in Victoria Boler, a widely admired pedagogue, providing top-notch training to inspired music teachers around the world.

She gave an incredible workshop building on the pitch and rhythm skills students had been learning all Season.

She showed them how to start arranging music themselves in an easy and natural way.

And we brought in Dr. Hannah Chan-Hartley.

She's a musicologist whose "Visual Listening Guides" have taken the classical music world by storm.

She showed our students how they could connect all their new active listening skills to a visual representation on a page...

Without getting into the nitty-gritty of notation.

In SUMMER...

We enhanced the core journey of creativity and improvisation with three widely admired and innovative specialists...

Jeffrey Agrell is the author of 9 books including "Improvisation Games for Classical Musicians" which features over 500 different games to help musicians start improvising in a fun and playful way.

He shared the unique and powerful approach he's developed that lets anybody play their way into musical creativity.

We were also joined by Evan Mazunik who has taught masterclasses and workshops across America on the topic of finding your creative flow.

In his Summer Workshop he taught the "AMAPFALAP" method that works in any musical situation to get you "unstuck" as an improviser.

And our extremely popular singing specialist from the Summer Season, Davin Youngs, returned to present a special workshop too.

In it he went beyond the deeply personal and moving vocal training from the start of the Season, and took our students into the world of singing as a healing practice.

In AUTUMN...

We extended the core curriculum on playing by ear with three additional expert perspectives...

Sarah Gulish has combined the highest formalities of academic understanding with the most informal "let's sit around and jam on our guitars" contemporary traditions of music learning - with spectacular results.

She was the perfect guest expert to present a workshop in Autumn Season on how to identify and play chord progressions by ear for accompanying, jamming, or just your own enjoyment and exploration.

One impactful part of Autumn is exploring how basslines combine the melody and harmony by-ear skills developed throughout the Season. So we were delighted to be joined by Scott Devine, founder of Scott's Bass Lessons, the world's premier online learning platform for bass guitar.

In a fascinating Workshop, Scott led us through how he constructs basslines using a layered approach, and how this framework can unlock all kinds of basslines in music for you by ear.

And Cynthia Crump-Taggart, President of the Gordon Institute for Music Learning whose founder Edwin Gordon coined the term "audiation".

Cynthia built on the audiation skills our students developed during the Autumn Season and showed how the traditional Gordon perspective can empower you in a variety of exciting ways.

In WINTER...

Alongside using the powerful Circle Of Fifths to open up the "New Music Theory", we brought in two very different perspectives on theory to enhance and extend the Season's impact.

Matthew Scott Phillips and Jeremy Burns are the hosts of the highly popular Music Student 101 podcast where they tackle every aspect of music theory in a modern and widely-relatable way.

In their insightful workshop they shed new light on the theory of harmony and common chord progressions, all while making it practical and tying it all back to the Circle and its fifth relationships.

We were also joined by Ben Schwendener, a long-time collaborator with George Russell, whose "Lydian Chromatic Concept" has deep links to the Circle and the unique perspective on theory we explore in Winter Season.

Ben took the deep and intricate theoretical understanding which Winter Season had covered so far and kicked it up a notch, showing how even the most seemingly-complex music can in fact be explained in simple, universal terms.

This is just a taste of the workshops we’ve had so far...

All of which are now available for convenient on-demand viewing inside the Living Music program.

And of course...

We're always listening to our students to make sure the next workshops we run feature the experts and the topics which will be most useful to you.
Any one of these sessions is a masterclass you'd probably pay $30 or $50 (or more) to be able to attend.

And we have several of them each Season.

You get them all included for FREE when you join Living Music now.

VALUE: $249

Now as if all that wasn't enough...

We've actually saved one of the most amazing bits until last.

Over the years it has turned out there is something else, almost as important as all the training material.

And for some students, even more important.

And that's the human connection.

At Musical U this takes two forms that we call "The Two C's":

The "First C": COMMUNITY

Community

You will not find a more supportive, friendly, and passionate community of music learners anywhere.

Everyone is welcome.

Across instruments, styles and ability levels...

We all share the same love of music and excitement about improving our inner musicality.

This is one of the most wonderful learning environments you'll probably ever encounter.

And that means better results faster, for you.

It's not just a wishy-washy socialising thing...

Although there is some world-class banter in our discussion boards!

It's actually about peer-to-peer learning.

Our students support and encourage and enlighten each other.

And they share their learning points for everyone's benefit.

On a recent call, one of our students told us our community is so wonderful that they "never thought a music learning community like this could exist.”

“I love that we can connect with so many different people with a common purpose here.”

– Janet D., Living Music
Janet D.

“In the past I often felt that learning music was a lonely journey and sometimes it felt like a chore.

But the MU Team and the community have managed to keep my motivation high.

It goes without saying how well structured the lessons are.

In addition to that, reading everybody’s comments is like having a bonus lesson.

I sincerely thank you all for that!”

– Christine L., Living Music
Christina L.

The "Second C": COACHING

Support
The second factor is about personal, human support throughout your journey.

In Living Music it's like having a world-class, Olympic coaching team at your disposal 24/7, supporting you to reach your highest potential.

This is not a book, or a set of DVDs, or a series of videos where you're given the material and left to fend for yourself.

Our site is a living, breathing, learning environment.

Our team are in there every day, making sure our students succeed.

We take our students' success personally.

In concrete terms:

That means that any time you have a question or a concern...

Or you have any kind of struggle or sticking point...

You can post in the discussion boards, you can private message a team member, you can email us.

Whatever you prefer.

All those are a given.

And we also run two live drop-in calls every week - group videocalls with our team, where anything goes and you can ask anything you'd like.

It's totally up to you if and when you make use of these.

They're here for your convenience and support.

You just show up and get live, direct, personal help from a human being who has deep expertise and a genuine caring about your success.

You won't find many (or perhaps any) other music education site that goes as far as we do for our students' success.

And it means you can have absolute confidence that you'll succeed with this program.

Because we're there day-in, day-out, to make sure that this will work for you.

The excitement and enthusiasm the entire team has is contagious and has spread like wildfire throughout the community.
– Bev Z., Living Music
It's hard to put a meaningful value on these two "C's".

Either one could double the value of the entire program.

If you've tried before and struggled, this could be the game-changing difference-maker...

And what is achieving your goals worth to you?

We're just going to put these two down as "Priceless", because really, that's what they are.
What You'll Get
Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Lloyd N.

Lloyd is a self-taught bass guitar player who had been dabbling with the instrument and occasionally taking lessons for years. He came to Musical U wanting to learn to play music by ear and feel more connected with the music that he was playing. There was a significant sense of imposter syndrome when approaching more formal music learning due to the lack of professional education he had to this point.

Since joining Living Music, Lloyd says he feels like a veil has been lifted and he’s finally able to see what’s behind the curtain. The roadblocks that were preventing him from truly enjoying playing music had been removed and he is free to explore with confidence.

With his new found confidence, Lloyd has been thrilled to see this have real-world results in the jazz clubs he frequents. He’s able to improvise and jam with more seasoned musicians with joy and has loved to receive compliments on the stunning improvement to his own playing. Lloyd looks forward to continuing his musical journey and hopes to inspire others that this is possible.

Case Study: Brian M.

Brian has been playing guitar for much of his life but hadn’t pursued any formal training and was never satisfied with the level of musical expression he had achieved. The music he heard in his head was never achievable on the guitar and he didn’t have any idea how to get past these gaps in his music understanding.

He came to Musical U to fill these gaps and have a better relationship with his music. However, he was surprised at just how much the Living Music program was able to use multiple different resources to help him quickly expand his musical understanding and start seeing results immediately. He’s had a number of significant breakthroughs in just 12 weeks of his first season.

What surprised Brian the most was that musicians of all levels were able to benefit from the instruction in different ways. While other programs gave the information, what was lacking for him was the support and explanations he received from the Musical U Team. He’s excited to continue his studies and continue to hear his guitar play the sounds he’s only been able to imagine for decades.

Case Study: Ted B.

Ted has been playing the violin since he was six years old but has never felt comfortable as a musician. His study was on and off without any consistency or connection with other musicians. He came to Musical U to expand his musicality and help form that deeper connection to his musical expression.

What has surprised him about Living Music is that it’s been both developing his musicality from the ground up while simultaneously helping him develop the identity, confidence and imagination as a music maker. He feels more creative and able to make music on the fly no matter the circumstance. His connection to the community and other music learners has really helped to cement this new understanding.

Ted looks forward to continuing to open up the music inside of him and says he can’t even imagine where he’ll be next year. He’s eager to discover more “hidden gems” inside Musical U and learn from the staff and other students in the program.
What’s it worth to you to become the musician you’ve always wanted to be?
When you tally up everything you’re getting today when you join Living Music…

The training, coaching, and community…

It’s a total value of $3,642.

That’s not inexpensive—but think about what being a “total” musician is worth to you.

What would you give to enjoy the freedom to play whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want?
If ALL Living Music did for you was to mean you could pick up your instrument, any time, and play endless music of your own creation...
That sounded great to you and to anyone listening....

No sheet music, no notation, no memorisation...

Just music flowing forth from you with limitless creativity...

And never a hint of overwhelm, intimidation or nervousness.

Would that be worth $3,642?

For many music learners, when they think about how much money they earn each year...

And how this single investment would pay off every year for the rest of their life...

Compounding and getting better each and every year...

Continually increasing their joy and fulfilment in music...

They leap at the chance to make that kind of investment.
Or if ALL it did for you was to put you in touch with a deeply personal, natural, unique musical voice that's actually been with you all along...
If it let you connect with your innate creativity...

So that expressing your own musical ideas...

Or putting your own spin on the music you play...

All came as naturally as listening to music and having your personal taste in what you like and don't...

If all it did was give you that feedback loop between what you hear and what you play...

So that you can be your own best teacher...

And be "in the moment" every time you play...

Would that be worth $3,642?

If we could help you become the "you" that you were meant to be…

To really, truly, know with certainty, that you are musical, and you have a unique voice to bring to any musical activity…

How would that identity shift impact your life?

Would that change the story of your life...

Into something bigger, better, and more wonderful than it could ever be without that shift?

Paying just a few thousand dollars for something that enormous sounds like a pretty good deal...
Or if ALL this did for you was to let you accelerate your music learning...
So you can bring a creative spirit and clear, practical application of creative principles to ALL your practice activities...

And you can develop your own musical creativity in parallel with all your other musical skills...

Making creativity a strand that runs throughout everything you do in music, continually increasing your musical freedom...

Would that be worth $3,642 to you?

To know that every time you practice music you are becoming more creative and more free...

Every day, for the rest of your life?

Assuming you hope to live for many more years...

Then even though this investment isn't "cheap"...

It represents next-to-nothing when spread across all the time you'll be enjoying the benefits for.

So what would this be worth to you?

How much would you pay, to have ultimate musical freedom?

To be embarking today, on a journey that will make it easy and joyful for you to become more and more musical, and more and more free.

To find that deep, personal connection to music.

And put in place the concrete skills that make it easy and automatic to bring out your unique musical voice in everything you do.

To put aside any frustration, limitation, or disappointment you might have felt in the past...

And start a whole new chapter of your musical life that is literally guaranteed to transform you from the ground up into a "natural" in music.

If you think of this as something that's going to dramatically change your musical life for the better...

Every day, week, month and year for the rest of your life....

Then measuring the price in thousands of dollars seems like an absolutely sensible investment.
Hopefully by now you agree that your entire musical future is easily worth much more than $3,642.

And if you're anything like I was, back in the day, that's an investment you'd leap to make...

Knowing how valuable that transformation will be, for the rest of your life.

But we've got some very groovy news for you.

Our mission at Musical U is to provide this musical transformation to as many musicians around the world as possible.

So you can probably understand how happy we were when we managed to price the Living Music program not at $3,642.

Not even at half that, $1,800.

But at just $997 a year.

Just $997 per year, for unlimited access to EVERYTHING mentioned above.

Frustration
Now if you were to go out and try to cobble together this kind of training yourself with YouTube, or books, or individual courses...

You'd be wasting hours and days and weeks, even years, trying to get something close to the same results.

And of course you wouldn't have any of that priceless personal support to guarantee your success.

A big waste of time, probably a lot of wasted money.

And a lot of risk that it all might lead to nothing, despite your best efforts.

(I mean think about it.

Chances are you’ve been trying to improve your musicianship on your own already for quite some time.

How has that gone so far?

Do you sound how you want to sound?)
Lessons
Or if you wanted daily music lessons for a year, based on the world's best, proven material - what would that set you back?

At a minimum you're talking about $30/lesson, right.

And much more if the teacher is good.

That's over $10,000 a year...

OR you can invest just over a dollar a day when you join Living Music for $997/year.

And it's funny, when we chose the name "Musical U", obviously it was to hint at us being your "musical university", as well as it being all about you becoming more musical.

But in the last few years, and especially within Living Music, we keep hearing from our students: this really is like a college experience - only better!

So you could go sign up for a music degree program, and pay upwards of $20,000 per year.

Or find a conservatory and spend $40,000 or $50,000 PER YEAR.

OR... you could join Living Music now for just $997.
And with all due respect to college music programs...

We feel confident saying that you will get dramatically better results from this program...

Than from a year of the average music degree course.

Again, that's not just our opinion.

That's literally what we hear from our students.

Including those who've done music degrees or even taught music at a high level themselves.

This is a kind of training and musical transformation you simply won't find elsewhere.

Let alone at a price this affordable.
Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Steph I.

Steph began learning music when she was a teenager, but was frustrated by the mechanical nature of her music lessons. She never felt like she was truly learning music; just being taught how to manually push the buttons. All the other aspects to truly understanding music were completely skipped over

When she found Living Music, she was immediately impressed with the linear and logical path of the curriculum. The structure enabled her to easily move through the day by day lessons and she got a sense of accomplishment when completing the lessons. It was accessible and made her feel welcome, even when she had questions about things that she didn’t yet understand.

Steph looks forward to continuing to grow in her musicality with Living Music. The live interaction with the Musical U team and community has been very uplifting and inspiring. Being around a variety of different people has increased the joy she feels when learning the materials and she’ll continue pursuing her big picture goals with Musical U.

Case Study: Jennie L.

Jennie played many instruments throughout her life and was actively writing songs since early on. She learned to play by ear from the beginning and never found that she was able to learn music the traditional way, and never found the ability to read notation.

She came to Musical U to rebuild her musical foundation and experience music in a new and deeper way. After taking the Foundations course, she jumped into Living Music with a new sense of eagerness that this was possible for her and she could continue to grow in her musical abilities.

Jennie now feels like she’s finally discovering the musician that she always could be and appreciates music in a profoundly more powerful way. She’s hearing entire songs in her head before picking up an instrument, singing harmonies with ease, and making better use of chord progressions and different sounds in her writing. Jennie is very eager to help pass the word of what’s being created at Musical U and can’t wait to continue with Living Music.

Case Study: Christina L.

Christina has been trying to learn various instruments for years. She knew that music was part of her and something that wanted to express on an instrument, but she could never sustain weekly lessons or keep interest in an instrument. She never felt like she had the support she needed.

After coming to Musical U, Christina was immediately amazed at how different things were inside the program. Despite trying several online courses before, the support and community of Musical U Members was something she found would sustain her and keep her moving forward with her goals.

Christina says the Living Music program has put all the pieces together for her. She enjoys the daily bite-sized pieces and has quickly added the ability to harmonize to her repertoire through collaborations with other members. She looks forward to the next steps in the program and continuing to become more musical.

It's Time To Set Your “Inner Natural” Free

Right now you're on the verge of an incredible breakthrough in your musical life.

If you're still reading this then you’re clearly someone who cares deeply about music.

Any my guess is you're interested in discovering what you’re truly capable of as a musician.

Now you could try to take these ideas and go it alone...

You could go out there and cobble together blog posts, YouTube videos...

Along with bits and pieces of books and courses and lessons...

And try to assemble your own musicality training.

Or you could decide to continue on the path you’ve been on...

Focusing on instrument technique and note-reading...

But never feeling like you’re truly free in music.

Feeling unable to express anything beyond a somewhat robotic rendition of music you’ve carefully learned before.

Wouldn't you rather make it easy on yourself...

Sorry to say, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Thankfully it's never been easier to take the active steps required to quickly and easily develop your musicality.

So don't let your potential go to waste.

Don't spend another day struggling in your music learning.

It can happen faster than you imagine - and all it takes is one small step right now.

Just click the button below to join now:

Now At This Point You Have 3 Choices...

1: You could do nothing.

But if you do nothing with the information you've heard about this new opportunity...

Then your musical life will be the same as it ever was.

"If nothing changes, nothing changes."

And if you are reading this now, I know you are itching for more.

You want that musical freedom.

You want to discover what you're truly capable of becoming, as a musician.

2: You could go away from this inspired... but not ready to commit.

And, you probably know how that ends.

A bit of excitement, a few days of jumping around from YouTube video to YouTube video, trying a few things...

Hoping to cobble it together yourself.

And, if you're like 99% of people who go that route, within weeks (or even just days) you're right back where you were.

Only now you probably even feel a bit more frustrated, because you know what's possible...

But your route to get there is blocked.

3: Or you could take a leap of faith right now.

And honestly, it's not even that much of a leap.

Because here's the thing:

We're going to protect your investment with a rock-solid guarantee.

Meaning:

You can literally try out Living Music for 90 days, with zero risk to you.
100%
GUARANTEED
We are so confident that you’ll love this program and be delighted with the results it provides that we are covering it with a 90-Day 100% Money-Back Guarantee.

That 90 days will cover you for an entire 12 weeks of Living Music.

An entire Season.

So you can literally buy now, dive in, and just see if it's right for you.

And then decide in 90 days if it's been everything you hoped for.

If you love it - awesome!

Do nothing, and continue on happily in Living Music.

But if for any reason you feel like it's not for you, that's fine, no problem.

Just get in touch and we'll promptly issue you a full refund.
We think you'll agree, that's a pretty insanely-generous guarantee policy.

Especially given how much personal help and support we provide you once inside.

But we can do it because:

A. We care about your success and want to make this as easy as possible a risk-free decision for you.

and

B. This stuff really works.

It's rare that someone asks for a refund.

Not because we make it hard. On the contrary, it couldn't be easier.

But because this program really does live up to the hype every step of the way.

So if you think this MIGHT work for you, try it.

There's also no lock-in.

So even if you love the first year but don't want to continue into year two, that's absolutely fine too.

It's set up as an annual subscription because the vast majority of our students want to stay with us once they experience what this training can do for them.

But there's no long-term contract, you can cancel easily any time.

So you get FULL instant access.

AND you get a totally risk-free chance to try the program in full - with zero downside, zero lock-in.

It's ALL upside for you.

So the real question in front of you right now is this:

Are you willing to give it a shot?

Even if there's only a chance... that it would deliver just HALF the results we've been talking about for you...

Surely that's worth a risk-free shot?

→ To go from music learner - to musician.

→ To go from 'I play music' to 'I make music'.

→ To go from "I'm learning music" to "I AM LIVING MUSIC".

Can you imagine the reaction from your family and friends, when they see this transformation?

When they hear your own personal, creative musical voice coming forth.

And see you standing in true confidence.

Knowing that you are naturally musical and fully free.

You're just seconds away from having everything it takes to experience life as a confident and “natural” musician.

To your musical success,

Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Felipe B.

Felipe has been trying to learn piano his entire life and had struggled with all aspects of his music education. He was passionate about the piano and loved the sound of the instrument so he continued to explore as many different options as possible. But he was never able to really grasp music theory until he came to Musical U.

First joining the course Foundations of a Musical Mind, Felipe was impressed to find many musicians that were very similar to him in life experiences and interests. He took an immediate liking to the community and became very involved in all that was happening at Musical U.

Since joining the Living Music program, Felipe enjoys that there are different activities every day within the course. It’s helped him create a new music habit that’s impacting every aspect of his musical life. He enjoys the complete approach to learning music, not just learning an instrument, and can feel the impact every time he sits at the piano.

Case Study: Martha D.

Martha started playing as a young girl, but was forced to stop after relocating overseas for her job without her piano. As she grew in her profession, she was able to return to music on occasion before discovering the harp later in life. She instantly fell in love with the instrument and started pursuing lessons.

While she loved the sound of the harp, learning to play it was far more difficult and she struggled to apply the lessons from her teachers. After exploring many different options, she discovered Living Music and eagerly dove into the training.

Martha has been thrilled to discover that training her musical mind has made a noticeable difference in her playing. Her teacher has commented about how quickly she’s improving and she’s enjoying the learning process more than ever before. Martha looks forward to continuing to learn and collaborate with the musicians that she’s met through Musical U.

Case Study: Skip A.

Skip began playing early in life, but says it was always very mechanical and he never felt that he was connected to the music. After retiring from his career, he had the new opportunity to explore his musicality and take a new approach to learning. After becoming frustrated watching endless YouTube videos that never connected, he joined Musical U.

One thing that really made the difference was the passion and energy that Musical U puts into all the products and support on the site. He said it was like receiving university-level instruction, but from someone that genuinely cared about his progress. He began listening to music with a new ear and gained a new appreciation and language for deceiving and experiencing music.

Skip looks forward to continuing with Living Music and learning new ways to express his musicality. He’s a very active member in the community and starts many conversations, exploring his favorite music with his fellow members. Skip is keen to begin performing live for friends around a campfire as soon as time allows.

Case Study: Nicolas A.

Nicolas began playing flute as a young adult while studying science at university, but lost touch with music after school. As he got older, he wanted to revisit music and make it a bigger part of his life and became connected with some other musicians in a combo. But he felt like there was something missing from his experience.

After discovering Musical U through Foundations of a Musical Mind, Nicolas began the Living Music Program. He was immediately impressed on how quickly he was able to start hearing music in a different and deeper way. Singing became a key part of his musical expression and he found that playing and collaborating with other musicians was more natural and joyful.

Nicolas is incredibly happy that he’s found Musical U and looks forward to continuing to discover what he’s truly capable of accomplishing in his music. It’s been the best music learning experience that he’s had so far and it’s made a major impact on his flute playing. He looks forward to continuing to develop his musicality and being part of the Musical U community.
Frequently-Asked Questions
CUSTOM JAVASCRIPT / HTML
Who It's For
Q: Is Living Music right for me?
The Living Music program is designed to help a very wide range of people become more musical.

It's suitable for all instruments and styles of music and we welcome people of all ability levels, from beginner through to professional.

A few cases where it might not be a fit...

✗ If you are solely interested in passing exams – then this probably isn’t what you're looking for.

✗ If you are a professional musician who can already play anything you can imagine, fluently and expressively – then our training material isn’t quite designed for you. You’d still be very welcome in the community, mind you!

✗ If you are under 16, then sorry - our minimum age is 16 years old. (There is no maximum!)

✗ If you hate talking to people and you’re determined to learn in isolation without any help, guidance or assistance along the way – then Living Music is not for you.

… but if those don't apply - and if you love music and you want to become more musical, then the answer is clear: “Yes! Living Music is right for you!”
Q: Is this suitable for beginners? Do I need to know music theory?
Living Music is designed to be 100% accessible to beginners. No prior knowledge is required.
Q: Am I too young / too old?
The minimum age for this program is 16 years old.

There is no maximum. Many of our students are coming to music or returning to it in retirement, and we've had successful students in their 90s.
Q: What if I’m just naturally unmusical?
We don’t believe that’s possible! As long as your ears are fundamentally working (which you can check here), you are capable of developing your musicality.

Many of our students at Musical U have started off fearing they are “unmusical” or just don’t have the “gift” they need to become a musician. In every case, we’ve been able to help them develop their musical skills and realise they are perfectly capable of realising their musical aspirations.
Q: Will this work for my favourite style of music?
Yes.

Whether you love blues, rock, jazz, country, classical, electronic, hip-hop, or anything else...

The core essence of music, and the associated skills of musicality are universal.

You'll find that the program material can be applied easily to any style you choose.
Q: Will this work for my instrument?
The short answer is: yes.

At Musical U we focus on the “inner skills” of musicianship. That means things like recognising notes and chords by ear, imagining music clearly, understanding the music you hear, and knowing how to express your musical ideas. These concepts and skills all apply perfectly to every instrument.

Although we don’t teach the instrument specifics (e.g. how to play a C Major chord on your instrument, or how to improve your fingering) you will be able to take what you learn in the Living Music program and apply it directly on whatever instrument you play.

In fact, this is one of the major benefits of developing your musicality: that you will find it easy to pick up new instruments and quickly learn to play them too. This is because you begin to actually understand what makes music work, and those core truths are the same for guitar, piano, saxophone, violin, … just about everything!
Q: Will you teach me to play an instrument?
No. But we can help set you free on your instrument!

At Musical U we focus on the “inner skills” of musicianship. We feel there are plenty of websites, products, tutorial videos, and (of course!) in-person teachers dedicated to teaching you how to play an instrument – and far too few resources for teaching the real skills of musicality!

With Living Music you can learn these fundamental skills of being musical, and then apply them on whatever instrument(s) you play. And of course the community is there if you want to talk about the instrument specifics and how to apply your newly-learned skills on your instrument.

As long as you're at least a few months into learning an instrument you'll get on just fine.
How It Works
Q: When does it start?
You are free to start each Season whenever you like. They are designed to work perfectly, in any order!
Q: How much time will it take?
As always we’re trying to design things to accommodate our members who have busy lives to fit their music learning into.

With Living Music we’re very much encouraging daily engagement, and our best estimate would be 15-30 minutes per day

The curriculum is highly flexible so you can make fast progress with just 15mins/day but there's plenty to keep you busy for up to an hour or two a day if you choose!
Q: Do I need to show up “live”?
No, no live attendance is required.

You have the opportunity twice per week to come along to live "drop-in" group videocalls to get any direct personal help you would like.

There are also regular live expert workshops and Q&A calls specific to modules, but these are optional and recordings are provided afterwards to be watched on-demand if you prefer.
Q: What if the live call times don’t suit me or my timezone?
We try to schedule calls at a variety of times, and cater to a range of timezones.

However unfortunately there's no schedule which will always work for everyone in the program!

So for expert workshops and module-specific Q&A calls, full recordings are provided to watch on-demand afterwards.

For drop-in calls, if you can't find a time that works, you are free to get help in a number of other ways. Our team has even been known to jump on 1-1 videocalls where needed, to help make sure you have all the support you need to succeed :)
Q: Will I have to scramble to keep up with others?
No, it’s up to you how fast to go.

We run each 12-week Season "live" week by week - but there’s no deadline to complete the training modules or Seasons. If life gets busy or you need to take a few days off – no problem! You just continue again when you’re ready.

We firmly believe in the importance of flexibility in musical training, to suit each individual learner - so even though Living Music is designed around 12-week Seasons with a recommended daily schedule, you always have plenty of flexibility about what you do when. You will have access to all material on-demand after it's published (including recordings of live Q&A calls etc.).
Q: Do I need to download everything?
No.

A lot of the training inside Musical U does provide downloadable training resources. However, there is no need to download everything: you can use everything directly through our website using your browser.
Q: Can I do Living Music on a mobile device (phone, tablet)?
Yes.

Our online training website is compatible with all modern internet devices and web browsers.

As long as you have some type of web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer) on your device, you will be able to use the site successfully.
Q: Do you offer in-person tuition?
Musical U is an online education provider, so we don’t offer any in-person tuition.
Q: Do you provide certificates or accreditation?
We do not currently issue certificates, diplomas or other accreditation for Living Music.

However there is detailed progress tracking inside the site so that you can see clearly what you are achieving through your training.
Q: What if I get stuck or need help?
At Musical U we specialise in helping adult music-learners succeed with online training materials.

Any time you feel stuck, confused, have a question or need help, our team will be standing by and happy to help.

The first option is to post in the discussions you'll find throughout the site. Our team will be in there every day answering questions and providing any clarification or tips required.

The second option is to contact our team directly if you'd prefer to receive help privately. You can do this by email or using the message system on the site.

The third option is to come along to the regular live calls each week. Some are for specific modules, others are freeform "drop-in" calls, so there are plenty of opportunities to give live, face-to-face help from the team for anything you need along the way.
Q: How much does it cost?
The price of Living Music is $997/year.
Q: How do I pay?
You can purchase Living Music through our secure order form using a credit or debit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) or with a PayPal account. By linking your PayPal account to your bank account or topping up your PayPal balance in another way it is possible to pay without having a credit or debit card. You may also be eligible for PayPal Credit which allows you to spread the payment, in some cases with zero interest.

Your membership is then automatically renewed using the same payment method. If you need to update your credit card details, change payment method, or cancel your account to prevent automatic renewal you can do this easily through the account management page inside the site or by contacting our support team at support@musical-u.com at any time.
Q: Is there a payment plan?
With the low pricepoint we've set for this valuable training, we unfortunately can't also offer a payment plan.

However, you may be eligible for PayPal Credit which allows you to spread the payment over multiple months - in some cases with zero interest payable. Simply select "Check out with PayPal" during checkout, and then click the "PayPal Credit" button to see what's available to you.
Q: What currency are the $ values in?
All prices are stated in US Dollars.
Q: What if I don’t like it?
We guarantee that you will!

No kidding – if you decide during the first 90 days that for any reason Living Music is not everything you hoped for then just let us know (via the website or by emailing support@musical-u.com) and we will promptly refund 100% of your payment.

After the first 90 days, you may cancel your Living Music membership at any time and you won’t incur any further charges. You can do this easily through your online account management page or by simply emailing us at support@musical-u.com.

Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Melissa B.

Melissa plays the Irish flute and has been studying from online videos for around 10 years. She came to Musical U wanting to broaden her understanding of music and gain a more concrete foundation of musicality.

She appreciates coming in the Living Music program with a beginner’s mind and not having any more baggage which had been building over the years. Learning the building blocks for music has been fun and she’s enjoyed coming up with her own compositions and improvisations during the course of the season.

Melissa look forward to the positive atmosphere inside Living Music and has been thrilled to learn from the community. She can see how this will not only help her own musical development, but is eager to give back to other musicians as she develops her own musical network.

Case Study: Mary Grace M.

Mary Grace picked up the ukulele shortly after retiring and has been enjoying having music in her retirement. After a couple of years, she felt like she hit a dead end and wasn’t making any further progress in her musical journey when she found Musical U.

The most surprising thing for Mary Grace is how she’s able to incorporate theory into her music playing in a very natural way. Living Music has brought the music that was always inside her out into the open and she’s having fun practicing and implementing what she’s learning every day.

She looks forward to continuing to play and enjoy playing with other musicians in a way she hadn’t had the confidence to do before. Mary Grace is eager to not only play, but introduce other musicians to the ukulele and teach them what she’s been able to learn, to help other people enjoy music as much as she now does.

Case Study: Barnaby R.

Barnaby began playing the guitar as something fun and musical to do with his sons. He tried to teach himself with YouTube videos and, while he was able to learn some songs and get started, he just felt like he was mimicking another musician. That he didn’t really understand what he was playing.

He joined the Living Music program and has been able to gain a much deeper appreciation for the music he was hearing and how to connect the various parts of his playing together. Chords, rhythms, and melodies playfully interacted in his ear and he was able to connect with it in a much deeper way. For the first time, he was able to improvise with confidence and perform with others.

Barnaby looks forward to continuing his musical studies and being a part of the Musical U community. Interacting with other musicians and hearing new ideas has been a great joy and he’s been very active in sharing his own musical expressions. He’s focused on the joy of music and how good playing has made him feel.

Hear From Living Music Students

Case Study: Charlie D.

Charlie has been playing for years in groups and an orchestra, but had never been able to play by ear. While he could read sheet music well, he wanted to be able to experience just handing out with friends and jamming at a pub.

While he had tried other solutions, he always felt as though he was just floundering about and never had a firm direction before joining Living Music. Having a daily routine of exercises and lessons has given him a lot of structure and discipline which he really appreciates. Taking the guess work out of what to study next has made it very effective and enjoyable.

Just into his first season, he’s already to play some songs by ear and is really enjoying improvising with a freedom that he never felt before. He’s enjoying the process and the other musicians on the site through their daily interactions. Charlie looks forward to continuing to break free from from the page.

Case Study: Gyles P.

Gyles had a “long and broken journey” with music where he tried to learn many different instruments, but never succeeded in “finding his voice”. After retiring, he decided that he was going to give it one last shot and tried a Musical U course to help give him a jumpstart into finally understanding music.

While he had tried online learning before, he says it was the interaction with the Musical U team and the style of learning used in Living Music that really made the difference for him. He was able to interact, ask questions, and hear what other musicians were experiencing during the process of learning to play by ear. It’s been a very progressive improvement over just the last 3 months.

While he had nearly given up before joining Living Music, Gyles is now fired up and looks forward to when he can start participating in live music events. He’s eager to continue his studies as a Musical U student and discovering the musician that was always inside of him.

Case Study: Maxim S.

Maxim had been trying to learn to play the harmonica for several years on his own, watching various YouTube videos and learning bit by bit. Without a developed, step-by-step approach, he became frustrated and abandoned the instrument several times.

After discovering Living Music, Maxim says he found the support structure and approach that he had been looking for to develop the musical skills he wanted to have. In addition to learning about the music, being around like-minded musicians that had felt as frustrated as he had been was encouraging, and gave him hope that this was all possible.

He says he looks forward to continuing with Living Music and really appreciates the community of musicians that he’s been able to meet. Learning the skill of active listening and being able to analyze his own playing his given him the tools needed to continue to progress in his instrumental skills and develop as a musician.
