My name's Moira Rose. I live in the UK, in the northwest of England. I've been doing music since well, since I can remember. I had piano lessons from about the age of eight until I was sixteen.
When I was twelve I started oboe. And I sang in choirs from when I was quite little. I stopped play the oboe and I stopped playing the piano just because life changed. We moved and I lost my teacher. And I went off to university. And I didn't actually take music up as such, until about six years ago.
Before I joined Next Level, I had actually thought that I needed to find a different teacher. He's lovely, he was great, but I felt as if I'd reached a plateau with the way he taught and how he taught.
I don't know that I had any specific expectations. But yeah, I was excited. I wanted to get started.
The personalised coaching has just been fantastic. Initially I don't suppose I was quite aware of what it was going to be.
I thought I was going to have a teacher for an hour a week, and that would be great. And that would be what I'd been used to having. Within the first couple of weeks I realised that no, no, no, no, I had a teacher for all week! He answered my comments, he made suggestions right through the week. And encouraged me and it was wonderful.
It was a completely new experience. He has worked so hard at it. And little by little, things are getting there.
I mean, the coaches can't do enough for you. In fact I don't know how many hours are in their days. But it seems to be an awful lot more than are in mine.
The things like the open mic as part of the program. I've been to I think every one. I might have missed one. Just being with that community, it's so supportive.
Yeah, a lot of things have improved. What's happened is I've got more confidence. I understand what's going on, I'm happy to join in.
I don't find it easy. You know, I have to listen an awful lot. Listen and play, and listen and play, and listen and play. But I can do it.
My musical confidence has grown amazingly. And it grew amazingly fairly quickly, within the first few months.
To the extent that I organised a concert at church. And I could not believe the recording. That that was me, and that I was making that sound!
I'm just proud. Proud of what I've accomplished generally. The fact that I've got more confidence, I'm up for doing stuff, I'm up for joining in with people. I've joined a local band.
I'd recommend Next Level for anyone who's keen to be opened up musically. Who's not set in their ways, but actually keen to be opened up to so many new possibilities. And who's prepared to give it a go. Who's got the time and the persistence to keep going.
I'd say if you're thinking about it, go for it. It's given me a purpose.
It's made the most massive difference in my life. My musical life in particular. But actually my whole life.
